DA XII partners with PSA XII for the Training on Basic Statistics and Statistical Writing

The Department of Agriculture Regional Field Office (DA-RFO) XII, in partnership with the PSA XII, conducted a 5-day Training Course on Basic Statistics and Statistical Writing last January 30 to February 3, 2017 at Sarangani Highlands, General Santos City. The training is part of the statistical capacity building component of the Regional Broiler and Swine Information – Early Warning system (RBSI-EWS) Project of the DA in collaboration with the PSA.

The training aims to: a) provide the project staff with basic knowledge on descriptive statistics; b) enhance their skills on descriptive data analysis, data organization and presentation; and, c) develop skills in presenting data sets and writing technical reports. Group and individual workshops were introduced for practical applications of the concepts discussed. For the final workshop, each participant was required to make a report – complete with tables, graphs and textual analysis/discussion. The outputs were presented during the last day of the training.

PSA XII Staff Briefed on SSS

The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) XII conducted a half-day seminar on Social Security System (SSS) last February 6, 2017 at Kitok’s Diner, Cotabato City. The activity was aimed at orienting the participants on the programs, benefits, policies and services offered by the SSS. It was attended by 33 participants, 13 of of whom were non-PSA personnel. SSS provides and administers pension fund for workers in the private sector that has the following social security benefits: sickness, retirement, maternity, disability, death, funeral, and employee’s compensation.

Ms. Melba Florevic O. Molero, Corporate Executive Officer I of the SSS-Cotabato Branch, served as the resource person. She encouraged the participants to become members of the SSS and informed them of the various social protection services due to SSS members in times of death, disability, old-age, sickness and maternity. She discussed the qualifying conditions, maximum period of entitlement and limitations of availment.

PSA XII Conducts 2nd Level Training on Geotagging of Building Structures

Starting May 8, the PSA will conduct the geotagging of building structures of PSU samples for 2020 to 2021. The activity aims to identify and mark building structures in the digitized maps and putting pertinent geographical information and attributes for use in the various statistical undertakings of the PSA.

Prior to this, the PSA embarked on a five-year rolling technology-aided map updating scheme during the later part of 2016 to prepare for the application of spatial analysis and intelligent visualization of information using dynamic digitized maps. In September 2016, the PSA conducted the field updating of maps and the secondary sampling units (SSU) validation of PSU (primary sampling units) samples from 2016 to 2019.

Last April 4-7, 2017, the PSA XII conducted its 2nd Level Training at Sun City Suites in General Santos City. Participants to the said training were the Provincial Statistics Officers (PSOs), Provincial Focal Persons (PFPs), and the hired Map Data Screeners (MDSs) from the provinces. Ms. Ma. Eileen A. Berdeprado, the Officer-in-Charge of the Statistical Operations and Coordination Division (SOCD) of RSSO XII and Regional Director Atty. Maqtahar L. Manulon were also present during the training.

PSA XII conducts Orientation on Civil Registration Laws at J. Marquez Elementary School

Article 6 of Republic Act (RA) No. 10625, otherwise known as the Philippine Statistical Act of 2013, mandates the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) to carry out, enforce and administer civil registration functions in the country. Pursuant to this mandate, the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) XII was invited last March 17, 2017 by J. Marquez Elementary School in Cotabato City to discuss civil registration laws particularly on birth registration.

The half-day activity was initiated by its school’s principal, Ms. Mary Grace A. Berdeprado, to brief parents on the process of birth registration and in particular, orient them about procedures on how to correct erroneous birth certificates.

PSA XII visits Civil Registration Offices of Surallah and Banga

Proclamation No. 1106 was signed and issued by former President Benigno S. Aquino III last August 20, 2015 which declared 2015-2024 as Civil Registration and Vital Statistics Decade in the country. PA 106 enjoins all agencies and instrumentalities of the National Government and local government units, including government-owned-or-controlled corporations, in consultation with the private sector, development partners and the citizenry to actively support all activities and programs relevant to “Get every Pinoy and Pinay in the Picture!”. Commonwealth Act (CA) No. 3753 (s.1930) or the “Law on Registry of Civil Status” established the system of Civil Registration in the Philippines.

PSA XII takes part in STI’s 2017 Jobs Fair

As one of the valuable corporate partners of STI College Cotabato, the PSA XII participated in the Jobs Fair 2017 that was conducted last March 18, 2017 at STI’s school premises in Cotabato City. The activity was in partnership with DOLE XII, TESDA XII, ABS-CBN and Public Employment Service Office (PESO) of the City Government of Cotabato. This event is one of the activities under STI's E2E System or the Enrolment to Employment System.

The objective of this activity is to help job seekers, particularly the graduates of STI, to land a job after graduation.

RSC XII conducts its First Quarter Regular Meeting for CY 2017

The Regional Statistics Committee (RSC) XII conducted its First Regular Meeting for CY 2017 last March 28, 2017 at Viajera Dine and Cafe in Koronadal City. The meeting was presided over by the Hon. Arturo G. Valero, Ph.D., the RSC XII Committee Chairperson and NEDA XII Regional Director. Twenty representatives from member agencies, local government units, the academe, and the private sector were present during the said meeting.

PSA-XII Orients Students of Datu Siang National High School on RA 9048 and RA 10172

The Philippine Statistics Authority-RSSO XII was invited by Datu Siang National High School on March 9, 2017 to conduct a lecture on RA 9048 and RA 10172 to their Grade 7 to Grade 10 students. According to the school’s faculty, the lecture cum forum was intended to help students tackle concerns on unregistered births and provide them with information on how to address errors on birth certificates. Mr. Rodolfo M. Mendoza and Ms. Estrellita S. Balijon of PSA XII served as resource persons

PSA XII observes culmination of Civil Registration Month and launching of National Women’s Month

The PSA XII formally ended the month-long celebration of the 27th Civil Registration Month with a culmination program held at the Sun City Suites in General Santos City last March 8, 2017. The program was a two-in-one event as the office also launched the month-long celebration of the 2017 National Women’s Month with the theme “We Make Change Work for Women”.

Present during the program were the Local Civil Registration Officers and/or representatives from the various Municipal Civil Registration Offices across the region. Also in attendance were Regional Director Atty. Maqtahar L. Manulon, CRASD Chief Ms. Lorna M. Sumalpong, SOCD OIC Ms. Ma. Eileen A. Berdeprado, and the Provincial Statistics Officers, Supervising Statistical Specialists and Registration Officers of the PSA Provincial Offices in the region.
