In preparation for the conduct of the 2020 Census of Population and Housing (CPH) this coming May 2020, the Philippine Statistics Authority XII conducted a 3-day Training on 2020 CPH Block Maps Preparation and Printing last January 6-8, 2020 at Cinco Niñas in Koronadal City.
OIC Regional Director Engr. Belinda R. Penuela spearheaded the conduct of the said activity. It was attended by Provincial Statistics Officers (PSOs), Provincial Focal Persons, hired Map Data Reviewers (MDRs), hired Map Data Processors (MDPs) and selected technical staff of the Statistical Operations and Coordination Division (SOCD).
Senior Statistical Specialist (SrSS) Edward Donald F. Eloja of RSSO XII, the Regional Mapping Operation Focal Person, and Statistical Specialist II Regie T. Lemana, the Provincial Focal Person of PSA-Sultan Kudarat, served as trainers.
The preparation of maps for use in the census operation is divided into four distinct parts: 1) Creation of Geopackage Raster File, 2) Creation of Block Maps, 3) Preparation of Block Maps, and 4) Review of the Printed EA Maps.
The general objective of the activity is to come up with reliable and accurate printout maps of enumeration areas (EAs), barangays, and cities/municipalities which will be used as guide by field personnel during census enumeration. Also, the generation of block maps taken from specific areas, particularly those with high concentration of residential buildings, would ensure orderly and complete coverage of the areas.
