Fisheries Production in SOCCSKSARGEN Region decreased by 9.0 percent
In 2023, the Fisheries production of SOCCSKSARGEN Region decreased by 9.0 percent from 299,784.90 metric tons in 2022 to 272,861.41 metric tons in 2023 despite a 0.1 percent increase in Municipal Fisheries production.
In 2023, Commercial Fisheries had the highest share in the 2023 total regional fishery output at 76.7 percent; Marine Municipal Fisheries, 9.6 percent; Inland Municipal Fisheries, 7.9 percent and Aquaculture, 5.7 percent.
Commercial Fisheries
The Commercial Fisheries output was down to -10.5 percent from 234,026.98 metric tons in 2022 to 209,345.07 metric tons in 2023. The highest production was recorded in the fourth quarter of 2023 at 65,119.57 metric tons accounting for 31.1 percent of the total production for the year. The lowest output was recorded in the second quarter at 36,764.48 metric tons with a shared of 17.6 percent.
Municipal Fisheries
Municipal Fisheries output in 2023 was at 47,881.66 metric tons posting an increase of 0.1 percent from 47,816.11 metric tons in 2022. Marine Municipal Fisheries shared 54.9 percent while 45.1 percent was contributed by Inland Municipal Fisheries. Municipal Fisheries shared 17.5 percent to the total volume of fish production in SOCCSKSARGEN Region.
Marine Municipal Fisheries
In comparison to the same quarter in 2022, Inland Municipal Fisheries production was at -2.6 percent in 2023 with the highest increase observed in the first quarter of 2023. It went up by 137.8 percent during the quarter under review and accounted for 30.7 percent of the total production in 2023.
Inland Municipal Fisheries
Inland Municipal Fisheries production was up by 3.7 percent in 2023 with the highest increase observed in the fourth quarter of 2023. It went up by 22.9 percent during the quarter under review and accounted for 28.9 percent of the total production in 2023.
Aquaculture
Aquaculture production output dropped by -12.9 percent in 2023, from 17,941.81 metric tons to 15,634.67 metric tons in 2023. The biggest share was in the first quarter at 4,705.81 metric tons accounting for 30.1 percent of the total production for the year.
