VOLUME OF PRODUCTION BY COMMODITY GROUP

Other Crops total production of SOCCSKSARGEN Region in 2023 decreased by 0.09 percent compared to the same period in 2022.  Fruit Crops and Vegetables and Root Crops (VRC) decreased by 0.57% and 4.15% or 11,984.0 MT and 6,464.8 MT, respectively. Non-Food and Industrial Commercial Crops (NFICCs) have increased by 0.64 percent or 14,806.7 MT on the same reference period. (Table 1)

TOP 5 CROPS IN TERMS OF VOLUME OF PRODUCTION

Among the region’s top 5 Other Crops, Sugarcane and Oil Palm recorded increase in production during the period under review. Sugarcane recorded an increase of 5.47 percent from the previous year’s production while Oil Palm production gain 3.25 percent more than the previous year's productionCoconut (with husk) decreased slightly by 0.51% during the Annual 2023 from the previous year. Banana production drop by 1.22 percent in the year of 2023. Pineapple likewise recorded decrease by 0.61 percent during the period under review in 2023. (Table 2)

SELECTED CROPS IN TERMS OF VOLUME OF PRODUCTION BY SUBCOMMODITY GROUP

A. Non-Food and Industrial Commercial Crops (NFICCs)

Amongst the region’s selected NFICCs, Sugarcane, Oil Palm (fresh fruit bunch) and Coffee (green coffee beans) recorded increase in production during the period under review. Sugarcane recorded an increase of 5.47 percent from the previous year’s production while Oil Palm production gain 3.25 percent more than the previous year's production and Coffee (green coffee beans) increase by 4.83 percent or 530.68 MTCoconut (with husk) decreased slightly by 0.51% during the Annual 2023 from the previous year. Rubber (coagulated cup lump) production drop by 16.87 percent or 18,849.83 MT in the year of 2023. (Table 3)

B. Fruit Crops 

Among fruit crops, Banana, Pineapple, and Calamansi recorded a decrease in production during the period under review. Banana slows down at 1.22 percent from the previous year’s production, Pineapple production decrease by 0.61% from the previous year's production while Calamansi slightly decrease by 70.0 MT or 1.60%Papaya increased slightly by 2.53% during the Annual 2023 from the previous year and Mango increased by 6.33 percent or 4,048.32 MT from previous year. (Table 4)

C. Vegetable and Root Crops (VRC)

Among the region’s selected Vegetable and Root Crops, only Cassava recorded an increase in production during the period under review at 0.8 percent. Green papaya recorded a decrease of 5.2 percent from the previous year’s production; Eggplant production at 15.0 percent. Sweet Potato/Camote decreased by 16.6 during the Annual 2023 from the previous year. Tomato production drop by 15.1 percent in the year of 2023 (Table 5).

OTHER CROPS VOLUME OF PRODUCTION BY PROVINCE

Among its four (4) provinces, Cotabato had the highest Other Crops production at 1.541 million MT accounting for 33.7 percent of the region’s 4.572 million MT for Other Crops production in the 2023. Followed by South Cotabato at 1.497 million MT sharing 32.7 percent; Sarangani had 0.840 million MT or 18.4 percent; and Sultan Kudarat had 15.2 percent share or 0.695 million MT. (Figure 6)

Only Sarangani recorded a decreased of -4.04 in the production of Other Crops during the period under review in 2023. The rest of the provinces recorded single digit increment. (Table 6)

Definition of Terms

Crops Production - This refers to the quantity produced and harvested for a particular crop during the reference period. It includes those measured but damaged, stolen, given away, consumed, given as harvesters’ share, and reserved. Also included are those production from “pakyaw” and “contract growers”. On the other hand, excluded are those produced but not harvested for whatever reason/s.
