Highlights

The total volume of production of livestock and poultry in the province of Sarangani in the first quarter of 2024 was estimated at 4,236.02 metric tons which was 2.8 percent lower than 4,358.82 metric tons recorded in the first quarter of 2023. (Table 1).
 

 

Livestock Production in Sarangani Province increases by 0.05 percent

The total livestock production in Sarangani Province was estimated at 2,546.65 metric tons in the first quarter of 2024, which was 0.05 percent higher than 2,545.44 metric tons in the first quarter of 2023.

The livestock production in Sarangani Province comprised of carabao, cattle, hog, and goat. Among these animals, hog recorded an increase of 4.3 percent in the volume of production in the first quarter of 2024. On the other hand, the volume of production for cattle declined by 23.2 percent. This was followed by goat and carabao which declined by 18.4 percent and 1.8 percent respectively, compared to the same period in 2023. (Figure 1 and Table 1)

 

 

Moreover, hog had the highest percentage share in livestock production in the first quarter of 2024 with 78.8 percent, followed by the production of carabao at 10.3 percent. Goat had the least contribution on the volume of livestock production with 3.4 percent in the first quarter of 2024. (Figure 2)


Poultry Production in Sarangani Province decreases by 6.8 percent

Sarangani’s poultry production decreased by 6.8 percent from 1,813.38 metric tons in the first quarter of 2023 to 1,689.38 metric tons of poultry products in the same quarter in 2024.

The total poultry production in the province was comprised of poultry products such as chicken, chicken egg, duck and duck egg. Among the total poultry production in the first quarter of 2024, chicken recorded the highest production with 1,287.04 metric tons, followed by chicken egg with 341.33 metric tons. Chicken posted a 14.3 percent decline in the first quarter of 2024. On the other hand, chicken egg, duck egg and duck production grew by 34.3 percent, 7.8 percent and 4.6 percent, respectively. In terms of contribution to the total provincial poultry output, chicken had the biggest share of 76.2 percent of the total volume of production in the first quarter of 2024. This was followed by chicken egg which contributed 20.2 percent. Both accounted for 96.4 percent of the provincial poultry production. Meanwhile, duck and duck egg combined for 61.01 metric tons, contributed 3.6 percent of the total poultry output in Sarangani Province. (Figure 5)

 

Number of Heads of Animals Slaughtered in Slaughterhouses in Sarangani Province grows by 8.4 percent

In the first quarter of 2024, the total heads of livestock slaughtered in slaughterhouses in Sarangani Province increased to 3,413 heads from 13,149 heads in the first quarter of 2023. This reflects an 8.4 percent growth compared to the total number of heads slaughtered in slaughterhouses in the same period of 2023. (Table 2)

 

 

 

 


Out of the recorded 3,413 heads slaughtered in slaughterhouses in the province in the first quarter of 2024, hog had the biggest contribution with 92.9 percent share, followed by cattle with 5.9 percent share. Goat had the least contribution with 1.1 percent in the overall livestock slaughtered in slaughterhouses in Sarangani Province. (Figure 6)
