Palay Production in SOCCSKSARGEN decreased by 0.5%

The total palay production in SOCCSKSARGEN Region during the 4th quarter of 2024 was estimated at 355,395.60 metric tons. Palay production in the region decreased by -0.5 percent compared with the production of 357,203.95 metric tons during the same period in 2024. Cotabato Province had the biggest share to the regional production at 150,816.00 metric tons or about 42.4 percent of the region’s total production in the fourth quarter of 2024. Followed by Sultan Kudarat that contributed 31.3 percent or about 111,313.00 metric tons of the total palay output in SOCCSKSARGEN, and South Cotabato palay production that reached 78,571.00 metric tons and contributed 22.1 percent of the total palay output in the region during the fourth quarter of 2024. Lastly, Sarangani had the smallest share to the regional production at 14,695.60 metric tons or about 4.1 percent of the regions’ total production in the fourth quarter of 2024.

 

In the 4th quarter of 2024, Irrigated areas in SOCCSKSARGEN Region produced 276,509.00 metric tons or 77.8 percent of palay while Rainfed areas contributed 78,886.60 metric tons or 22.2 percent to the region’s palay production.

 

Palay Production in Cotabato Province increased by 1.0%

Total palay production of Cotabato province increased by 1.0 percent from 149,318 metric tons in fourth quarter of 2023 to 150,816 metric tons in the same quarter of 2024. Total area harvested was escalated by 3.3 percent from 39,409 hectares to 40,706 hectares. Total yield was decreased by 2.2 percent in the 4th quarter of 2024. Palay production in irrigated areas decreased by 2.4 percent from 107,779 down to 105,245 metric tons. Rainfed areas produced 45,571 metric tons or about 30.2 percent of Cotabato province total palay production in 4th quarter 2024. (See figure 3 and 4)


In the 4th quarter of 2024, Irrigated areas in Cotabato Province produced 105,245.00 metric tons or 69.8 percent of palay while Rainfed areas contributed 45,571.00 metric tons or 30.2 percent to the region’s palay production.


Corn Production in SOCCSKSARGEN increased by 2.9 percent


Total corn production in SOCCSKSARGEN Region in 4th quarter of 2024 was estimated at 358,472.08 metric tons, 4.4 percent higher from the 343,496.08 metric tons in the same quarter in 2023. Among the four provinces in SOCCSKSARGEN Region, South Cotabato had the highest contribution in the region’s corn production in 4th quarter 2024. It reached at 136,983.00 metric tons, accounting for 38.2 percent of the total corn production in the region. Followed by Sultan Kudarat province with 85,746.00 metric tons or 23.9 percent, Sarangani at 76,170.08 metric tons or 21.2 percent and North Cotabato recorded 59,573 metric tons or about 16.6 percent in the 4th quarter of 2024.

 

In the 4th quarter of 2024, White Corn areas in SOCCSKSARGEN Region produced 70,998.98 metric tons or 19.8 percent of Corn while Yellow Corn areas contributed 287,473.10 metric tons or 80.2 percent to the region’s corn production.


Corn Production in South Cotabato increased by 3.1%

Total corn production of South Cotabato province increased by 3.1 percent from 132,889.00 metric tons in fourth quarter of 2023 to 136,983.00 metric tons in the same quarter of 2024. Total area harvested was escalated by 0.5 percent from 44,715.00 hectares to 44,940.00 hectares. Total yield was increased by 2.6 percent in the 4th quarter of 2024. White Corn production increased by 25.6 percent from 8,503.00 up to 10,679.00 metric tons. About 126,304.00 metric tons or 92.2 percent of Yellow Corn of the total corn production in South Cotabato was produced during the 4th quarter of 2024. (See figure 3 and 4)
 

In the 4th quarter of 2024, White Corn areas in South Cotabato Province produced 10,679.00 metric tons or 7.8 percent of Corn while Yellow Corn areas contributed 126,304.00 metric tons or 92.2 percent to the province’s corn production.

 


Technical Notes on Concepts and Definitions

Farm - a parcel or parcels of land which has a total area of at least 1,000 square meters (one-tenth of a hectare) used for agricultural purposes.

Palay household - the sample household operates an agriculture land, whole or part of which palay area within the nine-month period, or the land is temporarily in-fallow but the respondent declares that is devoted to palay production.

Non-Palay Household - household operates an agriculture land which is not intended for/devoted to palay production, i.e., zero palay production, no standing palay crop and planting intention.

Corn Household - the sample household operates an agricultural land, whole or part of which corn area within the nine-month period, or the land is temporarily in-fallow but the respondent declares that it is devoted to corn production.

Non-Corn Household - household operates an agricultural land which is not intended for/devoted to corn production, i.e., zero corn production, no standing corn crop and planting intention.

Production - refers to the quality produced and actually harvested for a particular crop during the reference period.

Total Agricultural Area - is the total physical area for crop production operated by the sample household within the province and those located in other parts of the country.

Total Palay Area - is the total physical area of the palay farm operated by the sample household within the province and those located in other parts of the country.

Total Corn Area - is the total physical area of the corn farm operated by the sample household within the province and those located in other parts of the country.
