Private Building Construction Statistics, South Cotabato: February 2025

Construction of residential buildings accounted for the biggest share of the permits issued
The number of private building constructions from approved building permits in February 2025 in South Cotabato was at 58 units, lower by 68 units when compared to the 126 units recorded in February 2024. These number include additions, alteration and repairs, and other types of constructions. About two in 10 of the 267 private building constructions in SOCCSKSARGEN Region in February 2025 were located in South Cotabato (21.7%). (Table 1)

By type of construction, residential buildings numbering 25 units accounted for 43.1 percent of the private building constructions for the month under review. This is lower by 17 units when compared to the 42 units recorded in February last year. About one in five of the 112 residential buildings constructed for the month in the region were issued permits in South Cotabato (21.6%). (Table 1)
Non-residential buildings were the second highest in terms of number of constructions at 17 units accounting for 29.3 percent of the total number of constructions in the province during the month. Non-residential buildings dropped by 32 units from 49 units in February 2024. Construction of non-residential buildings accounted for 15.2 percent of the 112 units recorded in SOCCSKSARGEN for the month under review. (Table 1)
Non-residential buildings accounted for more than half of the total floor area of constructions
The total floor area of private building constructions in South Cotabato in February 2025 was recorded at 8,933 square meters. This excludes alteration and repair, other non-residential such as facade, niche, water tank, etc., and other constructions, which include demolition, street furniture, landscaping, and signboards, since there is no reported floor area for these types of constructions. This accounted for 19.7 percent of the total floor area of constructions in SOCCSKSARGEN during the said period. The total floor area in February 2025 was lower by 9,955 square meters from 18,888 square meters recorded in the same period of the previous year. (Table 1 and Figure 1)
Non-residential constructions accounted for 5,802 square meters or 65.0 percent of the total floor area of constructions during the month in the province and 20.9 percent of the 27,761 square meter floor area of non-residential building constructions in SOOSKSARGEN. The floor area of 5,802 square meters of non-residential building constructions in the province in February 2025 dropped by 7,456 square meters from the 13,258 square meters recorded in February 2024. Total area of commercial building constructions reached 4,826 square meters representing 83.2 percent of the total floor area of non-residential building constructions in the province in February 2025. Meanwhile, the floor area of residential constructions reached 2,828 square meters representing 43.1 percent of the total provincial floor area for the month under review. It decreased by 2,802 square meters from 5,6930 square meters recorded in February of the previous year. Single houses had a total area of 2,327 square meters which accounted for 82.3 percent of the province’ total floor area of residential building constructions for the month. (Table 1 and Figure 2)
Non-residential buildings recorded the highest value of constructions
The total value of constructions in the province amounted to PhP 81.16 million in February 2025 reflecting a 72.5 percent drop from the PhP 295.43 million estimated in the same month of the previous year. (Table 1)
Non-residential building constructions, valued at PhP 44.0 million, accounted for half (54.2%) of the total value of constructions during the period. It went down by Php113.70 million from February of the previous year and accounted for 20.2 percent of the regional value of non-residential constructions in February 2025. (Table 1 and Figure 3)
The value of residential building constructions in the province, amounting to Php 33.15 million, shared 40.8 percent of the total construction value in January 2025. It was lower by Php11.83 million from the previous year’s Php44.98 million. It accounted for almost a fourth (24.3%) of the regional value of residential building constructions for the month under review. Single houses accounted for 87.4 percent of the total residential building constructions for the month in the province (Table 1 and Figure 4)
