Pursuant to Presidential Proclamation No. 647 signed by then President Corazon C. Aquino on September 20, 1990, declaring October of every year as National Statistics Month (NSM), the PSS will spearhead the month-long annual celebration. The NSM aims to: (a) promote, enhance, and instill awareness and appreciation of the importance and value of statistics to the different sectors of the society; and (b) elicit the cooperation and support of the general public in upgrading the quality and standards of statistics in the country.

Now on its 29th year, bearing the theme “Exploring Philippine Wonders in Numbers: Statistics Towards Sustainable Tourism Development”. The theme reflects the relevance of statistics in achieving a sustainable and progressive tourism growth for our country and emphasizes the need for statistics to identify potential tourism havens and also areas which require intervention.

To jumpstart the month-long celebration in the SOCCSKSARGEN Region, a motorcade will be held on October 02, 2018. It will start at the Koronadal City Hall and will pass through the major thoroughfares in Koronadal City. The motorcade will end at the FB Hotel where the Opening Program will be held. This year’s Opening Ceremony will be hosted by the Department of Tourism (DOT) XII in cognizance with the thematic focus of 29th NSM observance.

In support of the month-long celebration, activities in the form of statistics quizzes, exhibits, trainings, fora, symposia, seminars, preparation of statistical reports and related information materials, among others, were calendared to be conducted this October.

In line with this, the PSA seeks the support of all Government Agencies, Local Government Units (LGUs), Academic Institutions, State Universities and Colleges, and the private sector to actively participate in the celebration of the 29th National Statistics Month (NSM).
