
Alabel, Sarangani Province – The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) – Sarangani Provincial Statistical Office participated in the first-ever Sarangani Aquaculture Summit 2025 held on 06 August 2025, at the Capitol Gymnasium, Alabel. With the theme “Aquaculture for All: Bridging Innovation, Inclusion and Impact”, the summit was spearheaded by the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) XII through the Sarangani Provincial Fishery Office in coordination with the Provincial Local Government Unit of Sarangani through the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist (OPAG) Sarangani. The event aimed to gather fisherfolk, experts, stakeholders, researchers, and practitioners in the field of aquaculture to share best practices, innovative technologies, research findings, and valuable insights that can help advance the aquaculture industry in the region and beyond.
PSA Sarangani Chief Statistical Specialist Ismael B. Ramos Jr. served as one of the resource speakers, presenting the current aquaculture situation in Sarangani Province. He emphasized the importance of data appreciation, particularly the results of the quarterly aquaculture surveys conducted by PSA. His presentation highlighted aquaculture as the leading fisheries subsector in terms of production, significantly contributing to the province’s and region’s overall fisheries output.
Following this, other resource speakers from BFAR National Fisheries Technology Center (NFTC) presented innovations, best practices and newly developed technologies in tilapia farming, giant freshwater prawn farming, and catfish scientific farming, among others, making the summit more engaging and insightful.
The active participation of fisherfolks, stakeholders, academe, and private sector representatives enriched the event with valuable learnings and collaborative insights. Indeed, the summit served as a meaningful platform for knowledge sharing, innovation exchange, and strengthened partnerships toward sustainable aquaculture development.
