On February 14, 2025, South Cotabato radiated love and unity as various municipalities hosted heartfelt “Kasalan ng Bayan” events, bringing together local couples in a grand celebration of their commitment to each other. In these meaningful mass wedding ceremonies, the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) South Cotabato showed its support to the LGUs and their respective Municipal Civil Registrars (MCRs) who organized these joyous occasions.
The ceremonies took place in the municipalities of Banga, Lake Sebu, and Tantangan, where couples took their vows in front of their families, friends, and community leaders. These weddings were not just about the union of two individuals, but a testament to the power of community. The leading LGUs and officials behind this heartwarming initiative included:
• Banga, 41 couples: Acting Mayor Hon. Gemma I. Lloren, RSW, and Municipal Civil Registrar Ms. Liezl A. Daanoy
• Tantangan, 42 couples: Mayor Hon. Timee Joy G. Torres-Gonzales, and Municipal Civil Registrar Engr. Norman M. Erbina
• Lake Sebu, 17 couples: Mayor Hon. Remie M. Unggal, and Municipal Civil Registrar Garcia K. Alam
The "Kasalan ng Bayan" is more than a romantic celebration—it is a powerful reflection of the LGUs” commitment to strengthening families and upholding the legal and social bonds that tie individuals together. As couples exchanged vows, they not only promised to share their lives but also received the foundation of a legally recognized relationship, ensuring their rights and protections as partners. It symbolizes inclusivity, community support, and the broader social good that comes from having a properly registered and legally recognized marriage.
At the heart of these ceremonies, couples are assured of a marriage certificate, a critical legal document that establishes the legitimacy of a union. A marriage certificate does more than mark the start of a shared journey; it opens doors to essential rights and privileges that are often overlooked. From access to healthcare and social security benefits to inheritance rights, the marriage certificate solidifies a couple’s legal standing and protects their interests. It is an essential tool for securing legal recognition in a range of situations, from property ownership to decision-making in times of crisis. By facilitating the legal documentation of union, the concerned LGUs and the PSA highlights its ongoing commitment to ensuring every couple has the legal recognition they deserve.
