
The Philippine Statistics Authority Region XII conducted the 2025 Palay Production Survey (PPS) and Corn Production Survey (CPS) from 17 to 20 of March 2025 at the Virola Hall, PSA RSSO XII, Koronadal City. It was participated by the PSA RSSO XII Regional Director Atty. Maqtahar L. Manulon, CESO V through online, OIC-SOCD Chief Sittimazuin M. Hofileña, MNSA, CSSs, SrSS Christy R. Amban, SS II Nazar A. Mohammadsha, Statistical Specialist II Joy C. De Guzman and Statistical Analyst Juvy Anne A. Asuncion from Cereals Statistical Specialist of PSA Central Office, Provincial Focal Persons, and other regional staffs.
The 2025 PPS and CPS are two of the major agricultural surveys conducted by the PSA on a quarterly basis during a year. These surveys will be conducted during the months of April, July, October, and December. The general purpose of the PPS and CPS are to generate estimates on palay and corn production in metric tons, harvested area in hectares, yields, and other production-related data. The data will serve as the inputs to the value of production in Philippine Agriculture and Fisheries and will also be used for the computation of Gross Domestic Product (GDP). The results will be the references for the policy makers in planning and creating evidence-based strategies to the development of agricultural sector of the country.
RD Manulon delivered an inspirational message highlighting the significance of conducting the survey, followed by a welcome remarks from OIC-SOCD Chief Sittimazuin M. Hofileña. Based on the training schedule, discussion on each chapter were facilitated by two resource persons from the Central Office, Regional Focal Persons Nazar A. Mohammadsha and Statistical Analyst Raul A. Palahuddin. The training aimed to enhance the capacity of field offices on survey methodology, operational conduct of surveys, the utilization of Computer-Assisted Personal Interviewing (CAPI), and post-survey activities.
Following the training, a total of 50 issues and concerns were documented. Of these, 26 were addressed on site, while the remaining issues were referred to the central office for further discussion. Additionally, an update was made to the questionnaires, incorporating new questions on Planting Intentions, which will enhance the survey’s scope and relevance.
