The Philippine Statistics Authority announces the conduct of the Survey on Costs and Returns of Palay Production this quarter of 2023. This is in collaboration with the Department of Agriculture (DA) and the Bureau of Agricultural Research (BAR).

The SCR is one of the agricultural surveys conducted by the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) to generate data on the cost structure of palay production, and average use of materials and labor inputs, measures of profitability, and other socio-economic characteristics of palay farming in the country. The estimates generated will serves as benchmark data for the annual updating of the database on costs and returns of palay production.

The respondents are the palay-farming households. This survey round will be conducted in 81 palay producing provinces nationwide to account for farming operations in July to December 2022.

Specifically, the survey aims to: 1) generate data on cost and returns of producing palay; 2) establish an up-to-date production costs structure; 3) determine indicators of profitability such as gross and net returns, returns above cash costs, returns above variable costs, etc.; 4) come up with benchmark/updated data sets on average use of material and labor inputs; and 5) generate other related socioeconomic variables.

Field enumeration will start on 06 February to 17 February 2023. Twenty (20) Statistical Researchers were hired to undertake the field enumeration in SOCCSKSARGEN Region. The nationwide survey covers 10,458 palay farming households samples with SOCCSKSARGEN Region having samples numbering 455 palay farming households.

The general public is enjoined to support the aforesaid statistical operation by providing the necessary information required in the said survey.
