VOLUME OF PRODUCTION BY COMMODITY GROUP

Other Crops total production of SOCCSKSARGEN Region in first quarter 2024 decreased by 3.1 percent compared to the same period in 2023. Non-Food and Industrial Commercial Crops (NFICCs) slightly decrease by 0.1% or 118.8 MT, Fruit Crops and Vegetables and Root Crops (VRC) decreased by 4.5% and 33.0% or 21,609.3 MT and 10,860.1 MT, respectively on the same reference period. (Table 1)

Of the 1.302 million MT total Other Crops production in the region in 2023, about 61.22 percent were produced by NFICCs. About 35.94 percent were Fruits Crops and about 2.84 percent were VRC. (Figure 1)

TOP 5 CROPS IN TERMS OF VOLUME OF PRODUCTION

Among the region’s top 5 Other Crops, Sugarcane recorded an increase in production during the period under review. Sugarcane recorded an increase of 4.7 percent from the previous year’s production. Coconut (with husk) decreased by 5.4% during the first quarter 2024 from the previous year. Banana production drop by 7.0 percentPineapple likewise recorded a slightly decrease by 2.3 percent during the period under review in 2024; and Oil Palm (fresh fruit bunch) decreased by 7.2%. (Table 2)

Mid the top 5 crops, sugarcane contributed 0.421 million MT, accounting for 34.83 percent of the total production of Other Crops in 1st Quarter 2024. Coconut (w/ husk) shared 24.88%; Banana shared 19.35 percent; Pineapple, 17.27 percent; while Oil Palm contributed 3.67 percent to the overall production of Other Crops in the region, first quarter 2024. (Figure 2).

SELECTED CROPS IN TERMS OF VOLUME OF PRODUCTION BY SUBCOMMODITY GROUP

A. Non-Food and Industrial Commercial Crops (NFICCs)

Amongst the region’s selected NFICCs, Sugarcane and Coffee (green coffee beans) recorded increase in production during the period under review. Sugarcane recorded an increase of 4.7 percent from the previous year’s production while Coffee (green coffee beans) have increase by 87.7 percent or 5,189.16 MTCoconut (with husk) decreased by 5.4% during the first quarter 2024 from the previous year. Oil Palm (fresh fruit bunch) decrease by 7.2 percent and Rubber (coagulated cup lump) production drop by 6.3 percent or 1,102.70 MT in the first quarter 2024. (Table 3)

Among the selected NFICCs, Sugarcane contributed 0.422 million MT, and share 53.31 percent of the total production of NFICCs in first quarter 2024. Coconut (w/ husk) shared 38.09 percent; Oil Palm, 5.62 percent; Rubber, 2.22 percent; while Coffee (green coffee beans) contributed 0.75 percent to the overall production of Non-Food and Industrial Commercial Crops in the region (Figure 3).

B. Fruit Crops 

Among fruit crops, Banana, Pineapple, Papaya, and Calamansi recorded a decrease in production during the period under review. Banana slows down at 7.0 percent from the previous year’s production, Pineapple production slightly decrease by 2.31% from the previous year's production, Papaya decrease by 1.4 percent while Calamansi decrease by 67.5 MT or 6.1%Mango increased by 2.6 percent or 140.02 MT from previous year. (Table 4)

Banana acontributed0.234 million MT, and share 50.30 percent of the total production of Fruit Crops in first quarter 2024. Pineapple shared 44.9 percent; Papaya, 3.43 percent; Mango, 1.14 percent; while Calamansi share 0.24 percent to the overall production of Fruit Crops in the region (Figure 4).

C. Vegetable and Root Crops (VRC)

Among the region’s selected Vegetable and Root Crops, Cassava drop by 36.1 percent while Eggplant recorded a decrease of 11.0 percent from the previous year’s production; Green papaya decrease in production at 50.2 percent. Tomato decreased by 14.8% and Sweet Potato/Camote decreased by 36.5 during the Annual 2023 from the previous year. Tomato production drop by 15.1 percent in the first quarter 2024 (Table 5).

For Vegetable and Root crops, Cassava contributed 0.031 million MT and shared 85.27 percent of the total production of Vegetable and Root Crops in 2023. Eggplant shared 4.84 percent; Green papaya, 3.52 percent; Tomato, 3.21 percent; while Sweet Potato/Camote shared 3.16 percent to the overall production of Vegetable and Root Crops in the region, annual 2023. (Figure 5).

OTHER CROPS VOLUME OF PRODUCTION BY PROVINCE

Among its four (4) provinces, Cotabato had the highest Other Crops production at 0.555 million MT accounting or 42.6 percent of the region’s 1.302 million MT for Other Crops production in the first quarter 2024. Followed by South Cotabato at 0.384 million MT sharing 29.5 percent; Sarangani had 0.209 million MT or 16.0 percent; and Sultan Kudarat had 11.8 percent share or 0.154 million MT. 

Only Cotabato recorded an increase of 9.5 percent in the production of Other Crops during the period under review in 2024. The rest of the provinces recorded a decrease. (Table 6 and Figure 6)
