The Inflation Rate for the Bottom 30% Income Households in SOCCSKSARGEN Region eases to 0.8% in January 2025 from 1.1% in December 2024.

From 2021 to 2024, the annual average Inflation Rate for the Bottom 30% Households in the region exhibited an uptrend from 5.1% in 2021 to 4.1% in 2024. From January 2021 to December 2025, the lowest monthly inflation was recorded in December 2024 at 1.1% while the highest was recorded in March 2023 at 8.4%. January 2025 recorded an inflation of 0.8%.

 

INFLATION RATE BY COMMODITY GROUP

The top three (3) major contributor to the January 2025 Bottom 30% Inflation was Housing, Water, Electricity, Gas, and Other Fuels (from 2.4% to 1.9%) followed by and Restaurant and Accommodation Services (from 2.5% to 1.5%) and Personal Care, and Miscellaneous Goods and Services (from 1.8% to1.9%).   

The price downtrend was attributed to lower price gains in Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages (from 0.6% to 0.1%); Housing, Water, Electricity, Gas and Other Fuels (from 2.4% to 1.9%); Restaurants and Accommodation Services (from 2.5% to 1.5%); and Information and Communication (from 0.4% to 0.3%).

Of 13 major commodity groups, Alcoholic Beverages and Tobacco (from 1.8% to 2.2%); Clothing and Footwear (from 0.7% to 0.8%); Furnishing, Household Equipment and Routine Maintenance of the House (from 1.2% to 1.4%); Health (from 0.9% to 1.0%); Transport (from 0.1% to 0.6%); Financial Services (from -0.1% to 0.0%); and Personal Care, and Miscellaneous Goods and Services (from 1.8% to 1.9%) recorded higher price gain in January 2025.

No changes recorded in Recreation, Sports, and Culture, 2.5% and Education Services, 2.4%.

 

Food Group 

The Food Group recorded a lower inflation of 0.0% in January 2025 from 0.6% in December 2024.

The top three (3) major contributors main source of deceleration to the January 2025 inflation in the Food Group were: Cereals and cereal products (ND) (from -1.9% to -6.4%); Fruits and nuts (ND) (from 7.2% to 4.9%); and Oils and fats (ND) (from 3.1% to 1.9%).

Among the Selected Food Items, higher price gains were recorded in Meat and other parts slaughtered land animals (ND) (from 0.8% to 3.0%); Fish and other seafood (ND) (from 1.2% to 3.5%); Vegetables, tubers, plantains, cooking bananas and pulses (ND) (from 4.6% to 13.6%); and Sugar, confectionery and desserts (ND) (from -5.4% to -3.6%).

No change attributed in Milk, other dairy products and eggs (ND), 4.1% and Ready-made food and other product n.e.c. (ND), 5.0%. 

 

INFLATION RATES AMONG PROVINCES

The highest contributors to the region’s 0.8% inflation rate in January 2025 for the Bottom 30% Income Households were by Cotabato Province followed by Sultan Kudarat, South Cotabato, General Santos City and Sarangani. Of all provinces, Sultan Kudarat recorded a higher price gain of 1.0% in January 2025 inflation rate. Notably, Sarangani declined by -1.1% compared to December 2024.

Consumer Price Index - the average retail prices of a fixed basket of goods and services commonly purchased by households relative to a base year

Inflation Rate - the annual rate of change or the year-on-year change in the CPI expressed in percent

Market basket - refers to a sample of goods and services that are commonly purchased and bought by an average Filipino household

Weights - a system that considers the relevance of the components of the index
