The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) is warning the public about National ID scams, particularly those comprising text messages, social media, and messaging apps. Scammers are impersonating government agencies, promising cash assistance, or posing as legitimate officials to trick people into sharing their personal information.
On 5 June 2025, the PSA released an advisory, reiterating its warning to the public against individuals or groups phishing for personal information via calls or messaging apps, such as WhatsApp.
Here are the key warnings and advice:
Beware of unsolicited messages: Be cautious of text messages, social media posts, or messages from unknown sources that promise benefits, cash assistance, or require your National ID information.
Don't share your National ID unnecessarily: Avoid sharing your National ID to individuals who are not authorized to request it.
Verify information: If you receive a message claiming to be from the PSA or related to the National ID, always verify it through official channels, such as the PSA website or their official social media pages.
Don't fall for fake offers: The PSA emphasizes that being registered for or receiving a National ID does not automatically make you eligible for government cash benefits.
Don't click on links or reply to messages from unknown senders: This can lead to malware or other scams.
Protect your personal information: Be vigilant about protecting your personal information, especially when it comes to your National ID, as it can be used for identity theft and fraud.
Report suspicious activities: If you encounter a scam, report it to the PSA's official channels immediately, such as info@philsys.gov.ph.
