
General Santos City - The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) XII conducted a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) on Construction on 22-23 April 2025 at Avior Hotel, General Santos City. It was attended by the representatives of the selected regional line agencies, local government units (LGUs), and private stakeholders. The activity aimed to discuss the importance of construction industry and its contribution on the economy.
Ms. Precious Anne C. De Jesus of the PSA Macroeconomic Accounts Service (MAS) serves as the resource person. She explained the importance of measuring construction as a critical component of the economy, highlighting its impact on GDP and overall economic growth. She also outlined key principles in accounting for construction, such as the need to accurately record both the value of new construction and improvements to existing structures. Ms. De Jesus emphasized the role of the PSA in economic accounting, noting its responsibility for collecting and analyzing data to ensure the accuracy and reliability of national economic reports. Additionally, she addressed the challenges in measuring construction, including difficulties in capturing data from various sectors, variations in construction quality, and the complexities of tracking both public and private sector contributions to the industry.
After the discussion, the resource persons, PSA staff, and representatives from regional agencies, the private sector, and other stakeholders engaged in a knowledge-sharing session. They exchanged insights, best practices, and ideas to enhance data collection, economic measurement, and policy implementation across sectors.
