The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) XII will conduct the Regional Press Launch for the 2024 Census of Population-Community-Based Monitoring Systems (POPCEN-CBMS) Field Operations on 15 July 2024, 10:00 AM at Avior Hotel, General Santos City. This activity aims to disseminate to the general public the importance of POPCEN-CBMS in the formulation plans, programs and policies geared towards improving the quality of life of Filipinos.
The conduct of the 2024 POPCEN is in accordance with Executive Order No. 352, series of 1996, and Republic Act (RA) No. 10625 (Philippine Statistical Act of 2013), which authorizes the PSA to prepare and conduct periodic censuses on various sectors of economy. Pursuant to Section 25 of RA 10625, the National Statistician identified the 2024 POPCEN to be conducted with obligation to provide information. Considering this, all respondents whether natural or legal persons is obliged to reply to the census questions. Data items to be collected in the POPCEN includes demographics such as name of household head and its members, sex, date of birth, age, marital status, birth registration, religious affiliation, ethnicity, literacy and highest grade completed. Some housing characteristics like housing type, construction materials of the outer wall and roof among others will also be asked.
Meanwhile, by virtue of RA 11315, otherwise known as the CBMS Act of 2019, the PSA is tasked to lead its implementation. The CBMS aims to collect information on different living conditions of households related to as health, nutrition, water, sanitation, shelter, education, income, employment, security, participation, and disaster preparedness. The POPCEN-CBMS will also update the social registries of the government such as the Listahanan for the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) of the DSWD. In this regard, the PSA enjoins the support and cooperation of every citizen to respond to the questions asked by PSA Enumerators.
